Thea, Matthew, Hayley

Biography

After graduating from Yale with a major in British Studies and U.C. Berkeley with a master's in journalism, I worked at the "San Francisco Review of Books" and "California Lawyer." At the latter magazine I learned a lot about the practice of law; I then applied for a fellowship at Yale Law School, so I could learn how law was *supposed* to work. The result was "Anarchy & Elegance."

I've been a contributing editor of "Publishers Weekly" and a book columnist for the "Los Angeles Times." I've also written for the "Christian Science Monitor," the "New York Times," "Sierra," the "Washington Post," the "San Francisco Chronicle," the "San Jose Mercury," "California," "Zyzzyva," and other publications.

I live with my wife, Lisa Miles, and our three kids -- Thea, Matthew, and Hayley -- in a 1880's Connecticut farmhouse. I seem to spend half my time trying to fix it!
